Usually no. A double coat helps protect against heat and sunburn, and shaving can affect how it grows back. A thorough de-shed and bath every 4 to 6 weeks keeps double-coated dogs more comfortable. If your dog's coat is badly matted, the groomer will talk you through the kindest option.
