A Season-by-Season Grooming Calendar for Pune

Pune has three clearly different seasons, and each one asks something different of your pet's coat.

After the rains (October to November)	Grass dries out on the hills and seeds start to stick to coats and paws.	A tidy-up of the feet, ears and belly so seeds don't catch, plus a check after hill walks.
Winter (December to February)	Cold mornings, sometimes near 10 °C. Coats grow thicker.	Midday or afternoon slots, warm water and a thorough blow-dry so your pet isn't left damp on a cold evening.

After the Tekdi Walk: Ticks, Burrs and Grass Seeds

Weekend walks on Vetal Tekdi, Taljai, Parvati or the hills around Baner and Pashan are one of the best things about raising a dog in Pune. They also send a lot of dogs home with passengers: ticks in the monsoon, and sharp grass seeds and burrs once the grass dries out.

Check five places after every hill walk: between the toes, inside the ears, the armpits, the groin and under the collar.
Grass seeds are more than a nuisance. Their pointed shape lets them work into paws, ears and even the eyes. If your dog keeps licking one paw, shaking its head or squinting after a walk, see a vet quickly.
Keep the feet and ears tidy. Short fur between the paw pads and around the ears gives seeds less to grip. Ask your groomer for a paw and ear tidy at every visit from October.
Ticks: at every monsoon groom, the groomer checks for ticks and removes any they find. For ongoing protection, ask your vet about a preventive.
